920-133 Baystack Switching
NCSS - BayStack Switching
Exam Objectives:
Special Note
**This is an updated version of the 920-123 BayStack/Business Policy Switch
(BPS) exam that will be retired in November 2004. If you have passed the 920-123
BayStack/Business Policy Switch (BPS) exam, you will not be required to take
this exam. The 920-123 will still count as credit toward your BayStack/Business
Policy Switch (BPS) Support Specialist certification.

BayStack Architecture
(9% of Exam)
Hardware
Define the hardware components including, physical and connectivity features of
the BayStack switches (i.e., 325, 420, 425, 450, 460, BPS, 470, and 5510).
Configuration
(66% of Exam)
Configuration Tools and Interfaces
Given a BayStack switch (i.e., 325, 420, 425, 450, 460, BPS, 470, and 5510) and
a configuration task (e.g., port change, VLAN membership, etc.), choose the
appropriate configuration tool(s) and/or interface(s) (i.e., Console Interface
[CI] Menus, Java Device Manager [JDM], Nortel Networks Command Line Interface [NNCLI],
Web-based Management System Interface, QoS Wizard, and ASCII Configuration File)
to perform the task.
Network Configurations
Configure BayStack 5510 switches to connect workstations, Personal Computers
(PCs), and servers to each other by connecting these devices directly to the
switches or by creating VLANs through the switches.
Configure BayStack 325, 420, 425, 450, BPS, and 470 switches to connect
workstations, Personal Computers (PCs), and servers to each other by connecting
these devices directly to the switches or by creating VLANs through the
switches.
Configure BayStack 460 switches to connect servers, end users, wireless access
points, Internet Telephones to each other by connecting these devices directly
to the switches to provide power to these devices from these Power over Ethernet
(PoE) switches.
Stack Operation
Install, configure, remove, and replace BayStack switches in pure or hybrid
stacks (i.e., BayStack 420 and 425 stacks or BayStack 450, 460, BPS, and 470
stacks) with or without the fail-safe cascade feature.
Quality of Service (QoS)
Configure QoS on a BayStack 460, BPS, 470, or 5510 switch.
Prioritize inbound frames based on traffic types or shape outbound traffic on
BayStack 460, BPS, 470 and 5510 switches.
Given a BayStack switch (i.e., 325, 380, 420, 425, and 450) that does not suppot
QoS, determine how to prioritize frames on a given packet stream between ports.
Reliability
Configure MultiLink Trunking (MLT)/Distributed MLT or Link Aggregation Control
Protocol (LACP) redundant links with or without Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
between BayStack switches (i.e., BayStack 460, BPS, and 470), and then verify
link fail-over.
Virtual LANs (VLANs)
Create and configure multiple VLANs (i.e., port-based, protocol-based, or MAC
SA-based) between BayStack switches.
Security
Given customer security management requirements for a BayStack switching
deployment, determine the appropriate security switch and/or network access
configuration.
Given customer authentication requirements for a BayStack switching deployment,
determine the appropriate user Enhanced Authentication Protocol (EAP) network
access and placement within the switch.
Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Snooping
Configure a BayStack switch for Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)
snooping.
System Management
(10% of Exam)
Management Tools and Interfaces
Define the roles and functions of the management tools and interfaces (i.e.,
Optivity Network Management System [ONMS], Optivity Switch Manager [OSM],
Optivity Policy Services [OPS], Simple Network Management Protocol [SNMP],
Remote Monitoring [RMON], Java Device Manager [JDM] and Port Mirroring)
available on BayStack switches.
Port Mirroring
Given a BayStack switch and customer port mirroring requirements, configure
port-based or address-based port mirroring on a BayStack port.
Troubleshooting
(15% of Exam)
Physical Configuration Issues
Given a physical BayStack configuration issue (e.g., port, cables, etc.), view
SNMP traps, event logs, port statistics, RMON alarms, and/or LEDs to determine
the root cause of the error and/or the appropriate corrective action for the
switch.
Data Link Layer Issues
Given a BayStack data link layer configuration issue, view statistics,
configuration settings (e.g., VLANs, Spanning Tree, port, etc.), and/or LEDs to
determine the root cause of the error and/or the appropriate corrective action
for the switch.
